Harburn Village Hall - Festival Misc.2

dog show dog show entrants
By noon on Festival Day dogs began assembling on the Show Field ready to “strut their stuff”. They appeared in all shapes and sizes - wee crosses to large pure breeds. Several entrants were rescue dogs attending their first “show”. It was a pleasure to welcome back also, several dogs that we had met in previous years. One return visitor was Zac, who had won best puppy last year, but was absolutely unrecognisable now. He had grown so much, he must be an almost fully grown Alsatian. The reputation of this annual event is spreading further each year. Our furthest travelled entrant had driven up from Norfolk!

The results were: Puppy – 1 Bernadette’s Blue, 2 Kieran’s Larsson, 3 Jane’s Max: Fancy Dress – 1 Lisa’s Coco, 2 Maria’s Bacia, 3 Sarah’s Breeze: Cutest Eyes – 1 Lucy’s Ben, 2 Anne Marie’s Kizzi. 3 Rachel’s Belle: Waggiest Tail – 1 Hannah’s Jasper, 2 Tony’s Gussie, 3 Olive’s Cleo: Best Six Legs – 1 Rachel & Belle, 2 James & Gaz, 3 Hamish & Millie: Dog Most Like Its Owner – 1 Peter & Poppy, 2 Anne Marie and Kizzie, 3 Fiona & Hyper: Dog Judge Would Like to Take Home – 1 Steve’s Zac, 2 Lee’s Bramble, 3 Lucy’s Ben.

The Agility Ring attracted several triers, some more successful than others. I think a rosette should have been awarded to the young lass who crawled through the tunnel to show her dog how it was done – while the dog ran around the outside and stood barking at the exit waiting for its owner to reappear. However, several rosettes were awarded (to the dogs) for clear rounds.

Sincere thanks to Neil, the MC, who kept everyone entertained with his jovial patter while maintaining order amongst the entrants. A most enjoyable time was had by the visitors – both 2 and 4 legged.

DOG SHOW 2009
DOG SHOW 09
DOG SHOW 09
Excitement mounted in the Dog Show Field as “Show Time” drew closer.  Also drawing closer was a huge bank of black threatening clouds heading for Harburn.  As they seemed poised above the Hall  at 11.54, the Judge said      “ can we get the show on the road” now.  And we tried..........   First Class into the Ring was the Puppy Class (4 to 12 months) comprising  8 of the cutest pups to be seen on any Showfield. The Judge was faced with a dilemna, but wee Sasha caught  her eye, as too did Ruby followed by another 4 cuties,  and  then the heavens opened.

It was a case of every man and dog for himself  in the rush to shelter beneath the gazebo roof. The deluge lasted 10 minutes, then it was back to the Show. ..... Fancy Dress.  Three very well attired pooches strutted their stuff – Bumble Bee Jemma, Prince Alfie, and  Meg in a designer “ Duck “ ensemble.   Meg sensibly came dressed for the weather in her  duck wqterproofs, but adamantly refused to join in the duck race later. She felt she was quite wet enough.

DOG SHOW
The Agility Ring attracted several triers, some more successful than others. One novice, Kiya produced a very  commendable effort  to earn her rosette. The Ring always  provides good entertainment for onlookers, maybe not so for the handlers who have to   run the course. The trick at one point seemed to be to  finish the course with the same dog as you started it with!  A couple of excited pooches midway “exchanged owners” and  ran off with the wrong person .....thankfully the owners soon retrieved “the situation” and the  pooches   continued  happily in their quest for a rosette.

Sincere thanks to MC Neil who kept everyone entertained with his patter while maintaining order amongst the melee.  Thanks also to Judge Mrs McNeil who stoicly met  the challenges presented to her. (Would she really have the  space at home for Henry the Basset?)  Finally thanks to the visitors  - both 2 and 4 legged – who bravely turned out in the wet and contributed to the success of the Festival..
